What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices.(Most cellphones will work) Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. This is a great way to explore the outdoors with the whole family!How to start: Register for a FREE Basic Membership at www.geocaching.com Visit the "Hide & Seek a Cache" page. Enter your postal code and click "search." Choose any geocache from the list and click on its name. Enter the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS Device. Use your GPS device to assist you in finding the hidden geocache. Sign the logbook and return the geocache to its original location. Rules of Geocaching:  If you take something from the geocache (container), leave something of equal or greater value. Write about your find in the cache logbook Feel free to post about your adventure to the Stoughton Recreation Facebook page or twitter account- @StoughtonMArec Have fun!  You will be able to find caches hidden around the Bradley Lessa Memorial playground trails placed by the Recreation Dept. Please be mindful of your surroundings when searching and use caution.

Registration open Monday, March 15th We are excited to announce the details for the 2021 Open Playground season. The Recreation Department has worked closely with town officials to prioritize safety for everyone this summer while still having fun! We have so many great activities and games planned, theme days, crafts, sports and more! Open Playground will run 6/28-8/13 from 8:30 AM- 2:30 PM with the option to stay until 4:00 PM for an additional $25 per child per week. You can sign up weekly or for the whole summer. DISCOUNTS ARE SHOWN AT THE END OF CHECKOUTChildren should come each day wearing sunscreen and sneakers. Children should pack a nut free snack, lunch, water and extra sunscreen. There will also be days when children are asked to wear their bathing suit to camp and bring a towel as well as sandals/change of shoes. Staff will sanitize equipment at the beginning of the day, before the use of any equipment, and after they are done using equipment. Indoor use of the facilities are for bathroom breaks and in case of unexpected inclement weather. There are no field trips other than three trips to Ames Pond on 7/8, 7/22 and 8/5 and are OPTIONAL. Unlike most summer camps, Open Playground does not follow a strictly regimented day-to-day schedule. Instead, our program offers an extensive selection of activities to participate in, including but not limited to organized sports games and tournaments, arts and crafts instruction, special events, themed activities and on-site entertainers. Children get to exercise the freedom of choice in a structured and supervised environment. Our skilled staff are comprised of high school, college, and post-grad counselors, many of whom are teachers or pursuing a degree in education. Safety and fun are our main priorities - sign up today! There are no transportation or lunch services. New! CIT program coming soon - limited space available!

Stoughton Recreation’s Pre-Playground program is run inside the South School, separate from the Open Playground groups. Pre-Playground is a structured program, led by counselors that focus on creativity and the power of play. Our goal is to challenge and educate all children in the most beneficial way through arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor games and special eventsPre-Playground is limited to 10 children per classroom per week. The program will take place inside one classrooms in the South School and this allows up to keep a strict ratio of 1:5 of child to counselor. We cannot accommodate more than 10, and spaces fill very quickly so please plan accordingly. This program does not include a sibling discount, and does not receive a t-shirt. Children MUST be fully potty trained (child can go to the bathroom without any help, no exceptions) to join the program. Masks are not required. The Pre-Playground classrooms are a PEANUT/TREE NUT-FREE zone.There is NO After Playground for Pre-Playground. All participants must be picked up by 2:30 pm. Looking to get outside and explore the great outdoors this season? This rental pass provides visitors unlimited day-use parking access to state park facilities within the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation that charge a parking fee. Visit www.mass.gov/DCR/Parkpass.htm for a list of participating parks and parking fees. The pass is available to Stoughton Residents and must be picked up and returned back to the Stoughton Recreation Department. Rental of this pass is FREE! If you do not return the pass in the agreed upon time frame you will be charged. To obtain this pass please come by the Recreation office or give us a call.

Join Stoughton Recreation staff as you learn the basics of golf from putting to driving. This instructional clinic is open for all players or all abilities and is guaranteed to be a fun and relaxed environment. Spaces are limited! Please bring your own equipment. 
 
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM    Knights of Summer Extended Day - Knights of Summer Extended Day Week 4
For children attending the OMS Knights of Summer Extended School Year program, the Recreation Department will be sponsoring a bus that will transport your summer student to the Open Playground program to participate in and enjoy recreation activities when their school day is done. This program will also include a full day registration for Fridays (8:30-4:00) to cover your childcare needs. Full day Fridays are not reflected on your receipt but are included.Children must be registered through the school department for the Knights of Summer Extended School Year in order to register for KOS Extended Day.Parents are responsible for reading the Open Playground Parent Handbook prior to their child's first day https://stoughtonrec.org/documents/open_playground_parent_handbook_2021_11.pdf NOTE: PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PICK UP AT THE END OF THE PLAYGROUND PROGRAM AT THE SOUTH SCHOOL NO LATER THAN 4PM. Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Now's your chance, let the MassWildlife Angler Education Program be your guide. We'll have equipment on hand for use, as well as terminal tackle, and live bait. You'll learn the basics, from casting out, to baiting up, and the best part- You'll actually be able to fish. So come try your hand at this great outdoor pastime, guaranteed to catch some fun! Pre-registration is required. This program is intended for beginners The program costs $5 per family. The Recreation Department has worked closely with town officials to prioritize safety for everyone this summer while still having fun! We have so many great activities and games planned, theme days, crafts, sports and more! Open Playground will run 6/28-8/13 from 8:30 AM- 2:30 PM with the option to stay until 4:00 PM for an additional $25 per child per week. You can sign up weekly or for the whole summer. DISCOUNTS ARE SHOWN AT THE END OF CHECKOUTChildren should come each day wearing sunscreen and sneakers. Children should pack a nut free snack, lunch, water and extra sunscreen. Stoughton Recreation’s Pre-Playground program is run inside the South School, separate from the Open Playground groups. Pre-Playground is a structured program, led by counselors that focus on creativity and the power of play. Our goal is to challenge and educate all children in the most beneficial way through arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor games and special eventsPre-Playground is limited to 10 children per classroom per week. The program will take place inside one classrooms in the South School and this allows up to keep a strict ratio of 1:5 of child to counselor. We cannot accommodate more than 10, and spaces fill very quickly so please plan accordingly. This program does not include a sibling discount, and does not receive a t-shirt. Children MUST be fully potty trained (child can go to the bathroom without any help, no exceptions) to join the program. Masks are not required. The Pre-Playground classrooms are a PEANUT/TREE NUT-FREE zone.There is NO After Playground for Pre-Playground. All participants must be picked up by 2:30 pm. Do you love hockey but don’t know how to skate on ice? Or just love the sport? Join us for a week long of street hockey! The program is open to individuals ages 7-14 and we welcome all skill levels. Class includes instruction on stick-handling, passing, and shooting and each day will end with an organized street hockey game. Also included is Sauce Toss, a fun game similar to cornhole, but with hockey sticks!  No equipment required, just need sneakers and a water bottle. The program will be run by Jay Thebado. Jay is a Stoughton resident and coaches hockey at the Stoughton Ice Center

What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices.(Most cellphones will work) Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. This is a great way to explore the outdoors with the whole family!How to start: Register for a FREE Basic Membership at www.geocaching.com Visit the "Hide & Seek a Cache" page. Enter your postal code and click "search." Choose any geocache from the list and click on its name. Enter the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS Device. Use your GPS device to assist you in finding the hidden geocache. Sign the logbook and return the geocache to its original location. Rules of Geocaching:  If you take something from the geocache (container), leave something of equal or greater value. Write about your find in the cache logbook Feel free to post about your adventure to the Stoughton Recreation Facebook page or twitter account- @StoughtonMArec Have fun!  You will be able to find caches hidden around the Bradley Lessa Memorial playground trails placed by the Recreation Dept. Registration open Monday, March 15th We are excited to announce the details for the 2021 Open Playground season. The Recreation Department has worked closely with town officials to prioritize safety for everyone this summer while still having fun! We have so many great activities and games planned, theme days, crafts, sports and more! Open Playground will run 6/28-8/13 from 8:30 AM- 2:30 PM with the option to stay until 4:00 PM for an additional $25 per child per week. You can sign up weekly or for the whole summer. DISCOUNTS ARE SHOWN AT THE END OF CHECKOUTChildren should come each day wearing sunscreen and sneakers. Children should pack a nut free snack, lunch, water and extra sunscreen. There will also be days when children are asked to wear their bathing suit to camp and bring a towel as well as sandals/change of shoes. Staff will sanitize equipment at the beginning of the day, before the use of any equipment, and after they are done using equipment. Indoor use of the facilities are for bathroom breaks and in case of unexpected inclement weather. There are no field trips other than three trips to Ames Pond on 7/8, 7/22 and 8/5 and are OPTIONAL. Stoughton Recreation’s Pre-Playground program is run inside the South School, separate from the Open Playground groups. Pre-Playground is a structured program, led by counselors that focus on creativity and the power of play. Our goal is to challenge and educate all children in the most beneficial way through arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor games and special eventsPre-Playground is limited to 10 children per classroom per week. The program will take place inside one classrooms in the South School and this allows up to keep a strict ratio of 1:5 of child to counselor. We cannot accommodate more than 10, and spaces fill very quickly so please plan accordingly. This program does not include a sibling discount, and does not receive a t-shirt. Children MUST be fully potty trained (child can go to the bathroom without any help, no exceptions) to join the program. Masks are not required. The Pre-Playground classrooms are a PEANUT/TREE NUT-FREE zone.There is NO After Playground for Pre-Playground. All participants must be picked up by 2:30 pm. Looking to get outside and explore the great outdoors this season? This rental pass provides visitors unlimited day-use parking access to state park facilities within the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation that charge a parking fee. Visit www.mass.gov/DCR/Parkpass.htm for a list of participating parks and parking fees. The pass is available to Stoughton Residents and must be picked up and returned back to the Stoughton Recreation Department. Rental of this pass is FREE! If you do not return the pass in the agreed upon time frame you will be charged. To obtain this pass please come by the Recreation office or give us a call.

Do you love hockey but don’t know how to skate on ice? Or just love the sport? Join us for a week long of street hockey! The program is open to individuals ages 7-14 and we welcome all skill levels. Class includes instruction on stick-handling, passing, and shooting and each day will end with an organized street hockey game. Also included is Sauce Toss, a fun game similar to cornhole, but with hockey sticks!  No equipment required, just need sneakers and a water bottle. The program will be run by Jay Thebado. Jay is a Stoughton resident and coaches hockey at the Stoughton Ice Center

For children attending the OMS Knights of Summer Extended School Year program, the Recreation Department will be sponsoring a bus that will transport your summer student to the Open Playground program to participate in and enjoy recreation activities when their school day is done. This program will also include a full day registration for Fridays (8:30-4:00) to cover your childcare needs. The Recreation Department has worked closely with town officials to prioritize safety for everyone this summer while still having fun! We have so many great activities and games planned, theme days, crafts, sports and more! Open Playground will run 6/28-8/13 from 8:30 AM- 2:30 PM with the option to stay until 4:00 PM for an additional $25 per child per week. You can sign up weekly or for the whole summer. DISCOUNTS ARE SHOWN AT THE END OF CHECKOUTChildren should come each day wearing sunscreen and sneakers. Children should pack a nut free snack, lunch, water and extra sunscreen. Pre-Playground is a structured program, led by counselors that focus on creativity and the power of play. Our goal is to challenge and educate all children in the most beneficial way through arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor games and special eventsPre-Playground is limited to 10 children per classroom per week. The program will take place inside one classrooms in the South School and this allows up to keep a strict ratio of 1:5 of child to counselor. We cannot accommodate more than 10, and spaces fill very quickly so please plan accordingly. This program does not include a sibling discount, and does not receive a t-shirt. Children MUST be fully potty trained (child can go to the bathroom without any help, no exceptions) to join the program. Masks are not required. The Pre-Playground classrooms are a PEANUT/TREE NUT-FREE zone.There is NO After Playground for Pre-Playground. All participants must be picked up by 2:30 pm. The pass is available to Stoughton Residents and must be picked up and returned back to the Stoughton Recreation Department. Rental of this pass is FREE! The pass is available to Stoughton Residents and must be picked up and returned back to the Stoughton Recreation Department. Rental of this pass is FREE! If you do not return the pass in the agreed upon time frame you will be charged. To obtain this pass please come by the Recreation office or give us a call.
