12:00 AM - 11:59 PM    Snow Sculpture Contest - Snow Sculpture Contest
All participants must be registered through the Recreation Department.Create a snow sculpture and submit your pictures to the Recreation Department for a chance to win a prize! All participants who would like to be eligible must sign up through the Recreation Department's website and email their pictures to the proper email. There will be three categories the sculptures will be judged upon. They are most creative, most detailed, and a Stoughton Pride theme. The sculptures will be judged by the staff of the Recreation Department. The sculptures that have the highest rank in each category will be declared the winners. You are only allowed to win in one category. You must register and submit pictures of your sculpture by February 28, 2020 at 10 AM. You are allowed to submit your 3 best pictures. If you submit more than 3 only the first 3 will be judged. On March 2, 2020 by 4 PM notifications to the winners will go out and the results will be posted on Facebook. All pictures must be sent to recreation@stoughton-ma.gov by February 28th, 2020 at 10 AM.

3:30 PM - 4:30 PM    Animation - Animation - Winter 2020
Basics of Animation: Bringing Drawings to Life with Tinker & Create Located in the Training Room at the Stoughton Public LibraryFrom structure to conceptual design to movement of drawings and graphics, this course will explore the fundamental skills necessary for any young artist, animator, or game concept designer. With pencils, paper, The Pencil2D animation platform and plenty of imagination, students will learn how to bring an idea to life.  Animators are sometimes called “actors with a pencil”  with that in mind, students will be encouraged to tap into their creative instincts to write, create, and direct an animated short!  In designing their characters and worlds, these young directors will also learn how to be aware of forces acting upon objects, how to render lines of action, and start to think in a three-dimensional way.  From animation principles such as persistence of vision, walk-cycles, and physics – to film basics including scene-blocking and editing basics – we will try to cover as many topics as possible to give students a grounding in design, film, and animation.There is no class on 2/10 or 2/17.

Attending  meetings: all SLI members attend SLI workshops every other week, SLI Mentors attend Mentoring Days on  in-between weeks as well. Workshops are Wednesdays 2:30-3:30pm in the high school, room A216. Mentoring Days will also be Wednesdays 2:30-3:30 but in the middle school, in room 104.  Checking in at least once a semester  with Jennie during office hours (Thursdays and Fridays in the large group room in the high school library)  Communicating with Jennie as soon as possible if you anticipate missing a meeting or event Participating in at least 4 SLI leadership events throughout the year.  Join Molly and Matt from the Stoughton Recreation Department as you prepare creative works of culinary art! Come learn to cook, bake, and create one of a kind items for all to enjoy. All materials included in price, and each child will take home what they cook! We will never use any peanut or tree-nut products, but eggs, dairy and gluten may be used. 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM    Recreation Early Thursday Field Trips - Uptime E-Sports
Looking for something to do on Early Thursdays? Stoughton Recreation has you covered! Join our staff as we venture on multiple field trips to various places to fill our afternoons with fun activities for all to enjoy. The price will include admission and transportation! Seats are limited on our bus so register today to guarantee a spot!Uptime E-Sports is a new facility in Hanover that combines gaming and fitness. It is the first e-sports center in New England, and has over 6,500 square feet of space! Uptime E-sports is built on four core values: balance, positivity, respect, and teamwork. Kids can play a wide variety of appropriate games in a structured, supervised and balanced way! Please note that this trip is a change from the previous venue listed for this date. Please contact the Recreation Department with questions. NOTE: IF INTERESTED, PLEASE REGISTER YOUR CHILD TO THE WAITLIST (IF TRIP IS SOLD OUT). Let us take the kids for the night with an evening filled with movies, games, and food. Take this opportunity to have a relaxing night out with no worries! Kids Night Out will be held at the Stoughton Youth Commission (110 Rockland Street). The event will be staffed by the Stoughton Recreation Department along with volunteers and staff from the Stoughton Youth Commission and Stoughton Leadership Institute.
